About DEĀ EX MACHINĀ

With their lush synth-pop sound, DEĀ EX MACHINĀ encourages harmony and inclusiion in society through authentic Disability representation in music. Their crowdfunded debut EP "APO/THECARY" comes out coinciding with Disability Pride Month on July 29, 2026. Along with the fully funded Kickstarter campaign, this project is supported by an Iowa Arts Council Artist Project Grant as well as an Iowa Arts Council Career Accelerator Grant.

APO/THECARY’s imagery acts as a vehicle for songwriter and project lead Torina Gedler’s own emotions about how the healing powers of music and art have been corrupted and devalued by capitalism and technofascism. The songs themselves catalogue Gedler’s rise from internalized homophobia and ableism toward liberation and self-actualization. Each track features Gedler’s own lyrics, musical elements, and production. Four tracks have additional production from award-winning, Grammy-nominated RAMPD Pro member Medusa that is nothing short of breathtaking. Sync industry star Colby Lapolla also produced the third track, part self-love spell, part ballad, about loving their Disabled body.

Born and raised in Iowa, lifelong musician Torina Gedler (aka DEĀ EX MACHINĀ, previously Torinasaurus) began taking piano and music theory lessons as soon as they could read and showed much promise as a musician in public school -- until a naturally occurring brain injury (AVM) almost took their life at age 14, altering their prospects of playing trombone and singing professionally. As soon as they recovered from a month-long coma, they now grappled with newfound chronic Disabilities. Through consistent effort, and joining RAMPD as a Pro Verified member, they have ascended to higher degrees of renowned musicality and artistry in their community.
