About Cathy Power

Cathy Power is a disabled multi-instrumentalist and singer from Houston. Cathy composes and performs with Two Star Symphony, an all-original instrumental group from Houston that recently celebrated its 20th anniversary. She recently worked with Two Star in residency with The Contemporary Arts Museum Houston and also on a commission to create a site-specific work for Buffalo Bayou Partnership in The Cistern, an underground space with a 17-second delay . Two Star has been commissioned by he Museum of Fine Arts and Discovery Green to create new scores to classic silent films and has also composed for choreographer, Dominic Walsh. Cathy also performs and records with the chamber pop band, Merel and Tony and The Woe Woe Woes as a percussionist playing both rhythmic and melodic percussion. In addition, she sings and plays in an accordion trio cover band that covers songs from Beyonce to Lou Reed. Among the many highlights of her career are playing Laurie in Speeding Motorcycle, a rock opera based on the life and work of Daniel Johnston, being named “Best Spectacle” in 2001 by the Houston Press for her work as a performance artist, being a musical presenter at TedX Houston, being recognized with Two Star by TALA as 2012’s Artist of the Year, and winning awards two years in a row working as a composer with Hot Pixel Action for Houston’s 48 Hour Film Project.
