About Alexia McLean

Alexia McLean (she/her) is a saxophonist dedicated to closing equity gaps and enhancing inclusion in the music community. As an IDEA Arts Advocate and disability rights champion, she has advanced Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility in the music world, presenting at NASA Conferences.

At LSU, Alexia founded the Diversity & Inclusion Student Organization and served as Faculty Advisor. She is a certified Safe Space Member and holds DEI and Inclusive Leadership certificates from the University of South Florida.

Alexia implements initiatives in higher education, collaborating with administrators and career advisors to provide resources for student musicians. She recently organized Industry Day at Syracuse University.

As a person with a disability, Alexia advocates for disability rights, bringing personal insight to her work. She participated as a panelist during Syracuse University’s Disability Pride Week and serves on the DEI Committee and Disability Appeals Board. She also co-chairs the Communications Committee and leads the mentoring program for the North American Saxophone Alliance’s Committee on Gender Equity.

As a performer, Alexia premiered and recorded “In A Cloud, Aimless” by Stephen Browne in May 2021. She has performed at the 2017 NASA Regional 6 Conference, with the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra, and in the LSU Die Dreigroschenoper Opera. She placed first in the graduate division of the 2018 NOLA Chamberfest with the Magnolia Saxophone Quartet and premiered works for composers Jase Nugent and Luciano Correa. She performed in Duo Vim, which gave a masterclass and a Guest Artist Recital at the University of North Florida.

Alexia holds a Master of Music from LSU and a Bachelor of Music Performance from the University of North Florida, studying under Griffin Campbell, Michael Bovenzi, and Jeremy Williamson.
