Meet Torina, this month's Pro Member Highlight!
TORINA GEDLER
(They/Them)
Songwriter, Composer, Producer
Torina Gedler (they/them) is a songwriter, composer, producer, and recording artist who performs under the pseudonym Dea ex Machina. Through lush indie synthpop tunes, Dea ex Machina shines a light on underrepresented identities in the mainstream media, crafting lyrics about a range of topics with the overlying theme of ascending from the various systems of oppression that try to marginalize people.
Gedler’s Disability story will always intertwine with their artistry. Classically trained in music theory, piano, and voice and an avid artist as young as age 5, they enjoyed many honors in regards to their musicality and creativity in public school. They had a brain injury called an AVM at age 14, and adjusting to their resulting Disabilities while maintaining a happy creative life proved almost impossible. Still they persisted due to their passion for music and found solace in composing, and to this day they enjoy a career writing choral compositions. In 2023 they launched Dea ex Machina and have two singles on all streaming platforms as well as an upcoming EP for which they received a grant and funded a Kickstarter.
The existence of RAMPD gave Gedler permission to claim their place in the music industry, and they are passionate about advocating for others with Disabilities to pursue their ambitions in a similar way. Gedler is so grateful and honored to be a Pro Verified member of RAMPD and support their mission and Disability activism through their artistry and musical abilities, from providing recordings of chants for a protest to making and releasing their own art.
